Suddenly Dark Thoughts

At the bottom of the canyon
two silent words
on the portable CoDT billboard
flash an alert
......CHILD ABDUCTION.........
quietly shattering
my peaceful Colorado day...

suddenly dark thoughts
disturb my mind and heart
a cringing fear
a family's nightmare
a missing child.......

my consciousness is thrown back
to remember two days past
as I was driving down this very canyon
strange images came
in my mind
out of nowhere
a little girl
small and scared
cringing alone
on the side of the road
in my mind
I stop to help her
wrap her in my granddaughter's blue blanket
and wait for law enforcement assistance..

they are uneasy thoughts
why am I thinking them
I try to dismiss the images
as one those peculiarities
an active mind is
prone to conjure up occasionally

two silent words flash
......Child abduction......
Now this mental scenario
haunts me
makes me wonder
if an unknown abductee's despair
created the turbulence
then catapulted it out
in hope
of somehow being found.........
