My photographer's eye opened to see...beauty within the unexpected...spied the folds of burlap sacks soaking in the sun...waiting for...the light...to etch the moment...in its simplicity..........

The Spring in April

Outside...a blizzard blazes
through the April night...
earlier...in the mouth of the canyon...
coyote pack sat...in a resting spot for humans
while...a short way up...
deer stood about...close to the road...
as if disoriented
by the whiteness...
the previous days' warmth
seems to have fooled
even the four legged...
leaving them unaware...and
unprepared
for the sudden blast from the past...
I think about the eagles
who have returned to their lake
so early......
perhaps on a night
such as this
when the changing
is not yet...quite...complete...
they stay refuged
in the trees...
sheltered by ever green denseness
as they wait for the white of winter
to pass................

About Faces

Many of my posted portraits were taken quite a few years ago when I was a student in toronto. As I mentioned in a previous post...faces...captured with sun or shadow play...in a myriad of expressions...were...and still are...my favorite to photograph. The photographed were often fellow students....for this reason a face may appear on these posts more than once....the film and the prints developed by me...the good old fashioned way...in the darkroom. In my opinion...not many experiences match that of watching an image magically appear on paper...it provides a thrill that digital...although a marvel of technology...cannot...touch. Little did I know though... when the shutter was being snapped way back then...that one day...these frozen moments would find their way to a mystery called the internet...scanned through the wonder into a computer... and posted for any and all to see............as they are finally released from the waiting.................

Colorado Rockies beautiful day
at Eagles Lake
Osprey rests fearlessly
in a borrowed nest...
this must be
the sign I've awaited...
warm times are approaching
soon
eagle family will return...
in the flats below
the buds
are springing slowly...
as if...hesitant...
to trust in
the heat radiating through them...
but all day my mind
has been up above
so sun's light staying late
lures me
up the mountain early
to climb up and down
twist and turn
the back roads
surrounded
in magical music...
beauty all around
stiring my being
with memories
of my sister's laughter
echoing across the evening stillness
to home.....................
